Light Goose Conservation Order — Special Season Waiver

Bare Bone Outdoor Services LLC · Effective Date: June 1, 2026

This Addendum supplements and is incorporated into the Hunter Hold Harmless & Agri-Tourism Participant Waiver and the Waterfowl Hunt Waiver — Species-Specific Addendum. It applies exclusively to bookings conducted under the Light Goose Conservation Order (LGCO), which authorizes a special conservation season for snow geese and Ross’s geese beyond the dates of the regular migratory bird hunting season.

1. What Is the LGCO

The Light Goose Conservation Order is authorized under the Migratory Bird Treaty Reform Act of 1998 (16 U.S.C. § 710a) and implemented through annual U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service regulations. The LGCO addresses the overabundance of lesser snow geese and Ross’s geese — collectively “light geese” — which are causing significant damage to arctic and subarctic breeding habitat. The LGCO operates under a conservation order rather than a hunting season, which authorizes additional take methods that are otherwise prohibited during regular seasons. In Texas, the LGCO typically runs from approximately February 1 through April 30, though exact dates are set annually by federal regulation and must be verified each year.

2. Species Covered

This Addendum applies to the following species when taken under the LGCO:

  • Lesser Snow Goose (Anser caerulescens caerulescens), including blue phase (blue goose)
  • Ross’s Goose (Anser rossii)

Canada geese and specklebelly (white-fronted) geese are not covered by the LGCO and may not be taken under LGCO authorizations. Any incidental take of non-LGCO species must comply with regular season bag limits and regulations.

3. LGCO-Specific Take Methods

Special Authorizations Under LGCO

The following methods are authorized under the LGCO but are prohibited during regular migratory bird seasons:

  • Electronic calls: Electronic or electronically-amplified calls that imitate or reproduce the calls of light geese are permitted during LGCO hunts;
  • Unplugged shotguns: Shotguns capable of holding more than three shells (unplugged or extended-magazine shotguns) are permitted during LGCO hunts;
  • No bag limit: There is no daily bag limit or possession limit for light geese taken under the LGCO, though this is subject to annual federal regulation and must be confirmed before each season.

Hunter acknowledges that these special methods are authorized only for light geese under the LGCO. Using electronic calls or unplugged shotguns to take any other species — or outside the LGCO season dates — constitutes a federal violation for which Hunter is solely responsible.

4. Applicable Requirements Carried Forward

All requirements from the Hunter Hold Harmless & Agri-Tourism Participant Waiver and the Waterfowl Hunt Waiver — Species-Specific Addendum remain in effect during LGCO hunts, including:

  • Non-toxic shot: Required for all light goose hunting under the LGCO. Federal law prohibiting lead shot for waterfowl applies to LGCO hunts. Non-toxic shot is not waived by the LGCO;
  • Federal Duck Stamp: A valid Federal Duck Stamp is required to participate in LGCO hunts;
  • HIP certification: Required for LGCO participation;
  • Texas Hunting License: Required;
  • Baiting prohibition: Hunting over baited areas remains prohibited under the LGCO — the zero tolerance policy in the Waterfowl Addendum applies in full.

5. Verification of Season Dates

LGCO season dates are set annually by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and are subject to change. Hunter is solely responsible for verifying current LGCO dates through official federal sources before participating in any LGCO hunt. The Platform displays listing dates as submitted by the Landowner or guide but does not independently verify that listing dates fall within open LGCO seasons. Hunting outside the LGCO season is a federal violation.

6. Incidental Take of Non-LGCO Species

If a Canada goose or specklebelly goose is incidentally encountered during an LGCO hunt, it may only be taken if the regular Texas goose season is concurrently open and Hunter has not exceeded the applicable regular season bag limit. Hunter is responsible for knowing current regular season dates and bag limits. The LGCO does not extend any authorization to take Canada geese or specklebellies.

7. Additional Risks — LGCO Hunts

In addition to risks identified in the Hunter Hold Harmless Waiver and Waterfowl Addendum, Hunter specifically assumes risks associated with LGCO hunting including:

  • High-volume shooting scenarios with multiple hunters, multiple electronic call systems, and large decoy spreads in open fields;
  • Fatigue from extended shooting sessions common to light goose hunting;
  • Crowded hunting conditions in open field setups with simultaneous shooting from multiple hunters;
  • Cold and wet late-winter and early-spring weather conditions typical of LGCO season in Texas.

8. Incorporation

This Addendum is incorporated by reference into the Hunter Hold Harmless & Agri-Tourism Participant Waiver, the Waterfowl Hunt Waiver — Species-Specific Addendum, and the Platform Terms of Service. All terms, representations, releases, and indemnifications in those documents apply with equal force to LGCO bookings, together with the additional terms stated herein.
